One week from today, our family will be nearing the end of our annual trip to Pawleys Island, SC where we catch up with all of the Watkins' family (what our last name could be if Mike hadn't been given a hyphenated last name that over years of name calling was shortened for simplicity to the first half of the hyphen). Anyway! One week from today is also August 5th...the day that marks nine, count them, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9!!!!!!!!! years of marriage between Mike and moi. :)
So, since we'll be out of town and had no real plans to celebrate such a day, Mike decided to pull a HUGE one over on me today. HUGE I say. This is where the day went completely out of my control--initially shocked and apprehensive about the element of surprise, I attempted to cancel some of the following--I slowly came to and figured out it was just time to go with it...So, here's how my day went:
Daddy unexpectedly comes busting through our front door around 2:30 p.m. carrying these...
The kids are thrilled to see him. I am surprise to see him (along with flowers), and begin thinking I need to push him back out the front door so he can get back to work. Then, I open this...
I say something like, "What does this mean?" It's pretty obvious though, right? It meant just what it said--but that what not what I had planned for my afternoon! And, that is where my mind first went to anxiety mode and thinking about the fact that I had less than an hour to get somewhere, I hadn't had a shower yet, and wondering how I'm supposed to leave the round the clock nursing babe that I've grown quite fond of. Not to mention, I thought we were going out to dinner with my sister and had been looking forward to that all day. Okay! So, I jump in the shower, have a quick minute to think about what just happened, and begin to appreciate the sentiment and thoughtfulness behind all of his planning. My sis was in on it and will be dining with us tomorrow night, my mom and dad knew about it and were coming to watch the kids during dinner, and some other friends I tried to make plans with forgot to "circle back" with me about why they weren't available. :)
I jump in my car, turn on some Michael Buble, and drive out to
Calospa to enjoy my massage, manicure, and pedicure. By the time I got there, I was relaxed and feeling good. By the time I left, I felt even better and was excited to get home for our dinner date.
But wait, there's more!!! I get home, throw on a dress and my pretty new platforms, and walk into my bathroom to find a tiny little box waiting for me--this is unheard of!!!
We let Roxie tag a long with us for some patio dining at Avalon--one of our favorites. It was a wonderful evening, a fantastic day, and one that will be remembered forever! Thank you Mickey. I love you....lots! and lots! and lots!
